Privacy Policy: What's Going On?
Last updated: 30 October 2026
Short version: we read the chat only when you ask for a summary, and we don't keep it.
What we read
When someone runs /whatsgoingon, the bot reads recent messages from the channel(s) they picked, only channels that both that person and the bot are allowed to see. It reads nothing at any other time.
What happens to it
- Messages are cleaned in memory (spoilers hidden, links and @mentions found) and sent to our AI provider (Anthropic, Claude) to write the summary. Anthropic does not use API data to train its models.
- If Claude is unavailable, the summary is made by a model running on our own computer. The chat goes nowhere else, unless your server's admin turned on the free backup AI (see below).
- The finished summary (not the messages) is checked by a safety service (TypeSafe) for kid-safety and spoilers.
- The summary (and, if you ask for it, a picture of the summary) is sent back to Discord. Then everything is dropped from memory. The picture leaves out who @mentioned you.
Free backup AI (only if your server's admin turns it on)
- It is off unless a server admin ticks it in
/whatsgoingon-settings. Admins can turn it off any time. - When it's on and both Claude and our own computer can't make the summary, the messages are sent to a **free AI service (free models on OpenRouter). Free services may read the messages and use them to improve their AI**.
- Summaries made this way say "made by the free backup AI".
- We save which server turned it on, which admin, and when. Nothing else.
What we store
- One number per person per day: how many summaries they used (to apply the daily limit). Deleted after 2 days.
- A cost log with sizes and dollars only (number of messages and channels, tokens, cost). No server, user or message data.
- No messages, no summaries, no names.
Premium
Payments are handled by Discord. We only see whether a server or person has an active subscription. We never see card details.
Your choices
- Server admins can remove the bot anytime; that stops all reading.
- Admins can block the bot from any channel with normal Discord permissions; it can't read what it can't see.
- Questions or deletion requests: use the support link on the website. We'll answer within 30 days.
Kids
The bot follows Discord's age rules (13+, or older where local law says so). Summaries are written to be safe for all ages and age-restricted channels are skipped.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date above.
